A pH sensor is a device used to determine the acidity or alkalinity of a liquid. It does this by applying a small electric current to the liquid and then measuring how that liquid responds to the current. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 to measure acidity or basicness. A liquid with a pH of 0 is very acidic, like lemon juice. Conversely if a liquid has a pH of 14 then it is highly basic like soap. A pH of 7 is neutral, identical to pure water. The Importance of Calibration for pH Sensors in Industrial Settings

In order to ensure accurate reading from pH sensors, they must be precisely calibrated periodically. Calibration refers to the adjustment of the sensor to match the pH level of a standardized solution. That is, we test the sensor against a solution with known-pH, and if it doesn't match we fix it until it does. This makes calibration very critical as the pH sensors do not remain accurate over time. This can occur due to normal usage, variations in temperature, or another factor in the environment. Standard calibration keeps the sensor accurate, which is crucial for proper pH measurement.
