A pH meter is a scientific instrument used to determine how acidic or basic a liquid is. A liquid is called acidic, when pH is less than 7. In contrast, if the liquid is basic, the pH level will be at a higher rate. They are useful in determining the pH level of a liquid, which is especially important when analysing the quality of water. Other creatures and fish that inhabit the water can be affected by the pH level. If the ph meter laboratory of the water is too acidic, this can be toxic, not just for fish, but also for plants and other organisms.
How come certain plants are thriving and others are not? Soil pH in particular might explain the difference. There are even handheld ph meter electrode that also measure the temperature of the liquid. This is good because temperature can cause a difference in pH reading and by knowing the temperature, we can get accurate results.
If you need to measure pH of larger volumes of liquid, you may want to consider a benchtop pH meter. These Labtech meters are larger and more accurate than those that are handheld. Because they have numerous sensors that join together, they can return results faster. Benchtop ph meter and electrode can be more on the expensive side, but they are suitable for laboratories, industrial uses, and testing the quality of water in a number of different environments.
Essentially, the portable ph meter is a measure of how acidic or basic a liquid is, using a scale of 0–14. A 7 pH shows that the liquid is neutral — neither acidic nor basic. If the pH level is under 7, there are more hydrogen ions in the liquid, and it becomes more acidic. If the Labtech pH is above 7, there are fewer hydrogen ions in the solution, and the solution is therefore more basic.
Within a pH meter, there is a unique real estate known as the electrode. This electrode is a glass bulb filled with a specific solution. You dip the electrode in the liquid you are testing to measure the pH level. The special solution in the electrode produces a voltage proportional to the pH of the liquid. The ph meter and ec meter reads that voltage, and computes the pH level for you.
